Heroes wanted for the Great British Spring Clean in the Don Gorge
This is just to give you advanced notice that we have registered to take part in this event being organised by Keep Britain Tidy. River and weather permitting, our event will take place on
Saturday 4 March, 2017
I hope you will put the date in your diaries and come along to help in great numbers. We will hope to cover the island and both the Warmsworth and Sprotbrough sides of the Gorge as last year.
Leaders/Supervisors will be required, as will specific services which can be provided by Doncaster Council, the Canals and Rivers Trust and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. More information will be provided nearer the time, but any offers will be gratefully received in the interim.
Other funding applications
Whilst I am writing, it seems a good opportunity to tell you that we have applied for funding from the Tesco Bags of Help Fund and the Don Catchment River Trust, to clean up an area near the fish pass. This will involve general removal of trees and rubbish along a pathway, the rebuilding of a historic wall and steps using lime mortar, the planting of appropriate trees/shrubs and the installation of a picnic table.
If we are successful, we hope to begin this work at the beginning of April 2017. We will have up to a year to complete the project and would welcome anyone who would be interested in joining our volunteers, and especially advice or help from anyone with specific skills/knowledge.
Shoppers at Tesco stores in our region will be given tokens with which to vote for one of three community projects. So, if we are lucky enough to be one of them, we would ask that you vote for us. So please look out for us. Further information will be available at Tesco.
In the meantime, please let me know if you would be interested in helping.
Thank you for supporting us throughout 2016 and wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy 2017.
On behalf of the Don Gorge Community Group
