The
Parsonage on Main Street is claimed to be the oldest property
in Sprotbrough, having being extensively restored in the 1840s.
It was the childhood home of World War 2 fighter ace Sir Douglas
Bader, whose step-father was Rector of St Mary’s for some
years. Local people point to a hole in one of the windows of
the house which it’s claimed was caused by Sir Douglas
firing an air rifle at his step-father. A commemorative plaque,
mounted on the wall alongside the Parsonage, commemorates the
RAF hero’s
links with the house.

Close to the Parsonage, on nearby
Main Street, are situated some cottages, two of which are jettied,
and one features medieval carved heads mounted between its ground
and first floor levels.
